9/ Jumping into the Field of Play

Once the signal was received on board the starships that quarter would be given, the refugees prepared for disembarkation onto new shores. The expanse of space between them and their point of origin had reached its limit, and a new world beckoned them to call it home. None of their personnel had made their final stage of the journey alone; the prospect of being a singular people brought their hearts and minds into accord in such a way that they grew ever more cognizant of each others’ thoughts, feelings, and motivations. Thus, they together faced the transformation that awaited.

The great doors of the ships opened, and in poured great light. Having detected no hostility visible or unseen, they Lyrans poured out into the wide, verdant fields unblemished by either civilizational decay or war. They knew the potential for survival had just increased, and with hearts full of gratitude for the care with which they were directed and delivered, they responded to the planet’s initial welcome. Now they could release the trauma and allow hope a moment to evolve into faith, and move more fully into the present.

The next decisions they would face included whether or not to explore further along the planetary network around this and nearby stars. In coordinated movement, they could extend their understanding of this world’s potential for becoming home, and how this part of the galactic neighborhood might be willing to accept the civilizational imprint they carried. As they stood discussing their possible next moves, from the periphery of their vision came a strange sight: several people advancing with tentative steps, bearing the countenance of wisdom, curiosity, and strange traces of sorrow overlayered with trust. Turning to face them, the advance paused; the space between became alive with the pulsations of interactive thought. Full awareness of the moment shone on every face. As if fed by the questioning, probing hearts on both sides, the space between released a great intensity of light, a single burst illuminating each faction, the Lyrans and those who came in curious greeting.

Known now to each other, smiles, tears, and laughter collapsed the space that now connected them. It was the beginning of becoming the ones they were destined to be. Secrets now would be shared, knowledge known, histories woven together in a new design to the endless fabric of humanity’s saga. Home now, they would begin anew, and move into the transformation with gratitude and song.
